Background Info:
Werner Mölders (18 March 1913 – 22 November 1941) was a German Luftwaffe pilot. He was the leading German fighter ace in the Spanish Civil War; in World War II, he became the first pilot in aviation history to claim 100 aerial victories—that is, 100 aerial combat encounters resulting in the destruction of the enemy aircraft. The highly decorated Mölders was instrumental in the development of new fighter tactics which led to the finger-four formation. He died in the crash of an airplane in which he was a passenger.
Molders received The Knight's Cross with Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds. The award was presented in a small black case with velvet lining the base and white satin on the lid. Only 27 members of the military were bestowed with this award.
