Description
This Pete Seeger model with its distinctive long neck style is an original, not a reissue model, instrument in excellent condition in fairly good condition.
Pete Seeger (1919-2014) was active on the radio from the 1940s, and in the 1960s he became one of the leading folk artists, releasing many classic songs and promoting the civil rights movement as the god of protest songs.
In 1944, Seeger extended the neck of his VEGA White Lady banjo by two frets to allow him to play in his own key.
This instrument was stolen, but he produced an instrument with three more frets extended, and in 1958, VEGA gave Seeger permission to use his name on the long-neck banjo and commercialize it. These were a great success and became Seger's trademark.
In 1970, VEGA was absorbed by Martin and lost the rights to the Seeger name, but the Martin Kingston Trio model was released in 1997, which triggered DEELING to produce a reissue model.
The instrument in this case is an original made in 1961, and is a valuable banjo that is now rarely available.
The pegs have been replaced with Grover 102s, just like the instrument played by the Kingston Trio.
The head has been replaced with a new REMO coating and reconditioned throughout for an easy-to-play setting.
It has been refretted and is in very good condition with only minor fret wear.
The tailpiece has been presto, armrest replaced, and only one hook has been replaced.
It has the original tuba horn tone ring, which sounds light and gorgeous.
There is slight discoloration and rust on the metal parts, but very clean for an instrument of this age.
It has been nailed on the 5th string and was actually used in performance, making it a beautiful looking but resonant and ringing instrument.
It comes with a general purpose hard case of its own size.
