    Description

MALACHITE LOOSE STONES Green Carving Mineral Rock Artist Sculptor
A lot of 7 malachite stones, loose and ready for carving or display.
We are pleased to present this lot of 7 malachite stones. Mined in Africa, these stones from the green mineral have smooth sides and are ready be carved. Any artist in this medium would find these stones useful.
Malachite often results from weathering of copper ores and is often found together with azurite, goethite, and calcite. Except for its vibrant green color, the properties of malachite are similar to those of azurite and aggregates of the two minerals occur frequently. Malachite is more common than azurite and is typically associated with copper deposits around limestones, the source of the carbonate.
Large quantities of malachite have been mined in the Urals, Russia. It is found worldwide including in the Democratic Republic of Congo; Gabon; Zambia; Tsumeb, Namibia; Mexico; Broken Hill, New South Wales; Lyon, France; and in the Southwestern United States notably in Arizona.
The stones range in size, with the largest being 3 1/4 inches long and 2 1/4 inches at its widest. The entire lot weighs 2 pounds.
These malachite stones have some chips and hairline cracks on some of them, but this is nothing that would interfere with an artist's work. The bottoms, as expected, as rough from where they were mined, but the bottoms of most malachite sculptures have this. Other than that, the stones are blank slates, ready to be turned into all manner of figurines.
For workers of malachite, this lot would make a valuable addition. On display in a case, shelf, or table, they will make a great impression.
