    Description

    DARF TOBAC-OIL 5 STRING CANJO/BANJO
    .
Are you an out-of-control sucker for tobacco?
It says this here oil is for “Tobacco Sucker Control”, right on the front of the can.
Of course I don’t suggest rubbing Tobac Oil on anyone, but the joke is worth the price of admission.
This brightly colored can is probably from the 1960’s and is becoming a relic of the old South.
It once contained concentrated oil for the treatment of tobacco plants after pruning off budding suckers.
I have no idea what a “DARF” was or may still be.
This banjo measures about 36 inches overall and has 22 frets.
The fret board is 19 inches long, its width is 1¼ inch at the nut and 1 ¾ at the bottom.
The can once contained 2 US gallons and measures about 10 1/2 inch tall, 8 9/16 inch wide and 5 9/16 inch deep, give or take.
The tuners, tail piece, and bridge were new parts about 5 years ago, when I assembled this canjo/banjo.
I do not recall where or how I came by the neck.
The neck was drilled at its heel and fitted with a threaded insert.
A threaded steel rod was screwed into the insert and passes through the can in the manner of a traditional dowel rod and is locked down with a nut on the tailpiece.
Although I play finger style guitar, I am NO banjo player.
I can do a “fair” claw hammer style and by my ear this canjo seems to keep up OK, but this is NO guarantee of anything.
    Additional specific pictures upon request.
I will answer any questions you may have.
That said, given the age and type of this instrument, it is sold “AS IS”, with no guarantee or warranty implied or offered.
No returns or refunds will be considered for any reason.
This instrument comes with no case.
