    Description

    Antique (c. 1890s) 5-String Banjo - Gatcomb Standard No. 20.
Serial # 3575, manufactured in the 1890s in Boston, Mass.
This banjo is well playing, generally in great condition. It was acquired with steel strings several years ago which I have since replaced with a nylgut configuration in order to be more true to the banjo’s tension design. Does have superficial cracks in the heal veneer which show no sign of damage to the integral heal itself, as seen in pictures. Tuning pegs are synthetic faux ivory, all original with engraved palm accents. Fret inlays are also original, believed to be polished shell. The head is in excellent condition.
