    Description

1989 Navajo/Latino Unique, 3-D, Silver Overlay Santo Domingo (Kewa)  Pueblo Mission Church
    Bolo Tie
    by JoAnn Alarid
This bolo tie is a unique, one-of-a-kind, exceptionally beautiful, and very well-crafted Navajo/Latino 3-D sterling silver overlay
Santo Domingo (Kewa) Pueblo Mission Church
. This Native American pueblo is located north of Albuquerque, New Mexico on the way to Santa Fe.
The tie was made by the Navajo/Latino artist JoAnn Alarid in 1989. She is well-known for her unique depiction of many New Mexico and Arizona mission churches, such as this one, in sterling silver. For each mission church, she used 3 to 4 multiple layers of stamped-silver overlay. In the second photo, I have attempted to show the beautiful, multiple layers of silver overlay.
JoAnn Alarid is especially well-known for her concho belts. Each belt has numerous different mission church conchos. In particular, note the rather "folksy" style she used to depict the features of the church, which is her signature form. The strap is attached with two horizontal, flat, sterling silver loops
stamped with her hallmark last name and the year that it was produced. Except for two other ties of hers that I own, to my knowledge, these are the only bolo ties that she ever produced.
    This rectangular tie is
    2
    " wide and 1-1/4" tall
    .
    The stamped sterling silver
    tips are each 2" long
. The four-ply, black leather strap is new and, of course, shows no wear.
