14K GOLD "MODERN" SHELL CAMEO PENDANT BROOCH 7.4 GMS MID CENTURY TUCSON ESTATE

From a Tucson estate some years ago is this vintage yet decidedly "modern" 14K solid yellow gold pendant / brooch with a lovely carved shell cameo - construction and design in my opinion a mid 20th Century or so proposition. The generously proportioned cast gold work and artfully modeled image of a young girl in contemporary style give ample evidence of their bench crafting. There is a clear "14K" for fineness, though that is pretty much self evident. For some these versatile wearable artworks comprise a surviving bridge to the traditional hand work of former times. This atypical example brings things forward in a sort of elevated mid mod way,  a sure winner for that next occasion or even everyday.  I can remember cameos with similar substantial mountings in shop windows on the Ponte Vecchio in 1972 (when gold was . an ounce). The shops were still there when I last visited in 2008, but time had been more than kind to the price of precious metal. Weight is good for the size at about 7.4 grams  on my portable digital scale - a good amount of that being the gold.  Condition is quite fine with just a subtle aura of time to the surfaces. The shell cameo is well preserved. The gold pendant bale as well as the old style 45 degree pin and locking clasp are all ready for duty, showing little if any evidence of previous service - I think this was acquired and maybe worn briefly (or not), then just stored away for a long time. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition.  Size is about 1 3/8 in. vertical and 1 5/32 in. horizontal.
